Redmine VegBank - Bug #1121: Large plant queries cause Out of Memory errorhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/1121#change-41992004-04-08T22:30:45ZGabriel Farrellfarrell@nceas.ucsb.edu

This is less severe now that users cannot search using the dreaded empty
string ... which returns all plants. ( they could still do this with
plantname="%" query unfortunately but then they are being malicious ).

So we still need the pagination to really clear this up.

I suggest using the postgresql offset limit functions to achieve this.
VegBank - Bug #1118: strutify the certification form and possibly change the way log-in/cookie ar...https://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/1118#change-41892004-03-02T19:41:10ZGabriel Farrellfarrell@nceas.ucsb.edu

Works with 1.0.2
VegBank - Bug #1218: Get really new XML importing (version 1.0.2), allow zippedhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/1218#change-44982004-03-02T19:36:21ZGabriel Farrellfarrell@nceas.ucsb.edu

This is working with 1.0.2 and allows uploading of zip files.

Retification will build on the existing code base here. I refactored some of
this in anticipation of that work and but there is one cool refactoring that
would clean this up a lot and make further work easier.

Haven't the design clear yet but a props file generated from model XML that
configures special needs of each entity, i.e. does it need special perms to
load, what are the children allowed to load, must match existing entry in db.
VegBank - Bug #1114: Logging system needs to be upgradedhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/1114#change-41782004-02-27T21:49:20ZGabriel Farrellfarrell@nceas.ucsb.edu

Log4j is in place now ( via commons logging ). There is much that can be done
to exploit it.

Right now we can send it prioritys of messages, format the messages and output
to a rolling log file if we want.

To trully exploit we will need the client code to send it own messages rather
than via our LogUtility wrapper. Then we can set different priority levels for
different components of vegbank which could be usefull.
VegBank - Bug #1246: New user registration has DB errorhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/1246#change-45982004-01-18T21:49:49ZGabriel Farrellfarrell@nceas.ucsb.edu

An unrefined plant query that results in the system tring to large numbers of
plant is both slow and memory hungry ( even resulting in the jvm consuming all
its memory resources ).

This could be solved in a number of ways:

1. Have a google type interface thus limiting the display to some limited number
of plants ( 10, 50, 100?).
2. Move away from the xml/xsl pathway, populating a jsp or creating html on the
fly from JDBC resultset ( or some simple java object like PlantsSummary).
3. Both.
VegBank - Bug #1117: Register Issueshttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/1117#change-41862003-07-23T18:12:38ZGabriel Farrellfarrell@nceas.ucsb.edu

Fixed e-mail and increased the size of some database fields.

Needs to have validation that prevents invalid data getting to the database at
some point.
