Redmine Bug #5891 (Resolved): Installer acks need to be update for Ptolemyhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/58912013-03-19T14:38:29ZChristopher Brookscxh@eecs.berkeley.edu

The 2.4Rc3 installer acks for Ptolemy are out of date.
The text should be updated to say:

--start--
Ptolemy receives support in part by the Center for Hybrid and Embedded Software Systems (CHESS) at UC Berkeley, which receives support from the National Science Foundation (NSF awards #0720882 (CSR-EHS: PRET), #1035672 (CPS: Medium: Ptides), and #0931843 (CPS: Large: ActionWebs)), the Naval Research Laboratory (#NOOI73-12-1-G015), the Multiscale Systems Center (MuSyC), one of six research centers funded under the Focus Center Research Program, a Semiconductor Research Corporation program, and the following companies: Bosch, National Instruments, and Toyota. In the past, CHESS has been sponsorted by Agilent, DGIST, General Motors, Hewlett Packard, Infineon, and Microsoft.

Ptolemy is also supported in part by the TerraSwarm Research Center, one of six centers supported by the STARnet phase of the Focus Center Research Program (FCRP) a Semiconductor Research Corporation program sponsored by MARCO and DARPA.

Ptolemy is also supported in part by the Naval Research Laboratory project, "Software Producibility for System of Systems," and was accomplished under Cooperative Agreement Number NOOI73-12-1-G015.

--end--

To close this bug, the documentation for how to build a release should
be update to include going to http://ptolemy.eecs.berkeley.edu/sponsors.htm
to update the list of Ptolemy sponsors.
Bug #5646 (New): Switching some of the add-on modules to corehttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/56462012-08-06T20:33:00ZIlkay Altintasaltintas@sdsc.edu

Before 2.5, we need a discussion on switching some of the key modules, e.g., modules in the reporting suite, to the core suite and release process.
Bug #5629 (Resolved): Mac DMG installer should have better background and license agreementhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/56292012-06-18T14:19:38ZChristopher Brookscxh@eecs.berkeley.edu

Hello Christopher,

recently I have installed Kepler for Mac OS directly from the DMG file instead of using SVN.

I know this is not that important, but it is fairly easy to make installer look "prettier".

Michal Owsiak made the following suggestions about improving the
Mac DMG installer.

In case you know how to build nice looking DMG files, you can disregard the rest of the e-mail

Basically, there are two things you could add:

1. Nice looking background + nice layout of icons (example can be found below). There is a Mac OS X devote book that describes the process in details: "Apple Training Series Mac OS X Deployment v10.6"

http://www.owsiak.org/?p=683

2. You can also quite easily add the license agreement directly into Kepler DMG file (detailed steps are below)

http://www.owsiak.org/?p=700

This way, you can provide better user experience when it comes to Mac OS X related installation from DMG file.

Hope this may help.

In case you will have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Regards

Michal
Bug #5507 (Resolved): Windows Installer: The R choice is not unselectablehttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/55072011-10-06T01:39:19ZChristopher Brookscxh@eecs.berkeley.edu

When installing under Windows, I'm given a choice of which components
to install: Kepler and the R interface.

However, the R interface checkbox is not selectable, so I have to install
it.

Why do we offer the user the illusion of choice if they can't make
a choice?

This is minor and in no way a blocker, so feel free to retarget.
Bug #5506 (Resolved): Windows Installer Page does not mention 2.3?https://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/55062011-10-06T01:36:30ZChristopher Brookscxh@eecs.berkeley.edu

When I start up the Windows Installer, the page says Kepler-2.3, but
the date is August 12, 2011.
Also, the page says
"The 2.0 release contains a major architectural overhaul from previous releases"

I would remove that text, it is rather obvious.

Could there be text about what is new in 2.3?

These are minor suggestions.
Bug #5505 (Resolved): Kepler-2.3 installer should create directory named "Kepler-2.3", not "Kepler"https://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/55052011-10-06T00:34:59ZChristopher Brookscxh@eecs.berkeley.edu

When installing https://code.kepler-project.org/code/kepler/releases/test-installers/Kepler-2.3.dmg
I get a window that prompts me to drag the Kepler icon to the applications folder.

The folder should be named "Kepler-2.3", not "Kepler", so that it
is obvious which version is installed and so that multiple versions of
Kepler may be installed.

If the user already has a Kepler folder, what happens?

This is a feature request, not a bug, but I find it odd to have applications
that have no notion of version number in the directory name.
Bug #5473 (Resolved): 2.3.0rc1 won't start on Windows XPhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/54732011-08-16T23:42:37ZDerik Barseghianbarseghian@nceas.ucsb.edu

We don't have a Version 2.3.0 field, so bugs found during the Kepler-2.3 installation testing process should block this bug.
Bug #5445 (Resolved): Kepler 2.2.0 tar file should create a kepler-2.2.0 directoryhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/54452011-07-31T16:55:47ZChristopher Brookscxh@eecs.berkeley.edu

There is a zip file in each module containing the contents of the module.

I would not create a new installer for 2.2, since it has already been released, but the next installer should not contain these duplicates.
Bug #5398 (Resolved): Re-install of Kepler-x.y doesn't overwrite modules.txthttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/53982011-05-11T21:28:34ZDavid Welkerdavid.v.welker@gmail.com

Whenever Kepler-x.y is installed, modules.txt is overwritten to reflect the default for Kepler-x.y. But, if Kepler-x.y is uninstalled and reinstalled, this will not occur a second time.

Consider the following example. A user installed Kepler-2.2. Then modules.txt will be overwritten properly. Imagine two subsequent scenarios:

(1) The user uninstalls Kepler-2.2 and then re-installs Kepler-2.2. In that case, modules.txt will no longer be overwritten properly. Clicking on Kepler.app may not result in Kepler-2.2 opening and the user might need to use the Module Manager.app to solve their problem

(2) The user uninstalled Kepler-2.2 and then installs Kepler-2.3. No problem. Modules.txt will be overwritten properly and clicking on Kepler.app will open in Kepler-2.3 just as expected without having to resort to using the Module Manager.app.
Bug #4943 (Resolved): RC5 Installer Tracking Bughttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/49432010-04-19T18:39:33ZChad Berkleyberkley@nceas.ucsb.edu

Many users need to install Kepler on a cluster or other distributed environments where they do not have a GUI. So it would be nice if we support Kepler no-GUI installation.
