Add ? icon and tooltip with help text, change the placeholder text to "Search phrase"
Bug #6876 (Resolved): MetacatUI get an exception in the search interfacehttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/68762015-11-04T19:57:32ZJing Taotao@nceas.ucsb.edu

When I tried to open the search interface on metacatui, I got an exception:
<error detailCode="Solr server error" errorCode="500" name="ServiceFailure">

org.apache.solr.client.solrj.SolrServerException: java.lang.NullPointerException

</error>

The query is:
https://valley.duckdns.org/metacat/d1/mn/v1/query/solr/q=++-obsoletedBy:*+formatType:METADATA+++(beginDate:18*%20OR%20beginDate:19*%20OR%20beginDate:20*)+-obsoletedBy:*&rows=1&fl=beginDate&sort=beginDate+asc&wt=json&json.wrf=jQuery19105484170392155647_1446665703473?_=1446665703474

But it works on knb:
https://knb.ecoinformatics.org/knb/d1/mn/v1/query/solr/q=++-obsoletedBy:*+formatType:METADATA+++(beginDate:18*%20OR%20beginDate:19*%20OR%20beginDate:20*)+-obsoletedBy:*&rows=1&fl=beginDate&sort=beginDate+asc&wt=json&json.wrf=jQuery19105484170392155647_1446665703473?_=1446665703474
Bug #6868 (Resolved): Tooltips in the filter list are getting cut-off by the search results columnhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/68682015-10-30T18:39:36ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.eduFeature #6867 (Resolved): Map should be fixed width in the search viewhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/68672015-10-30T18:38:55ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

So that as the user widens their browser window, the result list gets larger, not the map. Ultimately I think we'd like to have resizable columns in that view so users can customize the space each pane (filters, search results, map) takes up, but this is a faster implementation of a similar idea
Support #6862 (Resolved): UI Testing feedback from AHM 2015https://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/68622015-10-28T15:04:21ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

We had two testers who provided feedback the provenance and metadata display. Overall the feedback was positive. Here is are the notes taken during that feedback (from Rachel Volentine):

-Participants liked that the display was simple and clean.
-The Prov display was clear (one of the best displays they have seen)
-They did not think upload date was important. They wanted to know creation date.
-They wanted some sort of symbol or icon to indicate that they are more ancestors (an arrow or something?) but they did not want the display to become too busy
-They liked the idea of a tab system to indicate what information was available on the page. BUT they did not want the display to become busy/cluttered. Only do something if the display will stay clean.
-They thought there was a lot of scrolling and thought it would be easy to get lost on the page. Wanted a "jump" or "back to top" button to help navigate.
-Wanted date the data was created to be more prominent. Didn't really care about date uploaded or date of DOI
-When you click on the ancestor you see "view", which they expected to mean you would see the R script (or other object). Recommend changing the term to "preview" or other term to mean that you see metadata instead.
-They liked the idea of getting a preview of the ancestor data
-One participant said "That's really clean stuff to work with" and considered that to be a big reason to return to the site.
-They liked the plain English descriptions in prov
-They liked the MN branding in the search
Bug #6850 (Resolved): Provenance nodes are not displaying sometimes unless its on a fresh page loadhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/68502015-10-05T23:09:53ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

Will have to look into exactly why... may be something to do with the latest Chrome version...
Feature #6832 (Resolved): Use /packages endpoint (with Metacat 2.5.0)https://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/68322015-08-19T18:01:41ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

MetacatUI 1.7.2 should have the option to use Metacat 2.5.0, which will use the /packages endpoint instead of /package.
Bug #6786 (Resolved): Map width doesn't change on browser zoom outhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/67862015-06-25T17:18:38ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

So the map doesn't float left next to the result list anymore and jumps down to the bottom of the page.
Feature #6778 (Resolved): Create Help page for describing MetacatUI https://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/67782015-06-04T17:56:05ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

Describe each filter type, how the results are drawn on the map, etc.
Task #6757 (Resolved): Use the object name from the metadata in the prov chartshttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/67572015-05-07T20:22:35ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.eduFeature #6754 (Rejected): Show more info in the georegion rolloverhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/67542015-05-06T17:19:38ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

Usability team commented that the info in the rollover was not very helpful. I'm unsure whether the map moving to that location on rollover worked for them..
Task #6737 (Rejected): Use Solr 4 subquerying to determine if a metadata doc is in a package with...https://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/67372015-04-15T16:12:40ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

Rather than relying on the multi-graph querying at indexing time (prov_hasDerivations and prov_hasSources fields)
Task #6708 (Resolved): Differentiate the prov chart nodes in some way from each otherhttps://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/67082015-04-03T22:58:38ZLauren Walkerwalker@nceas.ucsb.edu

When there are 25 sources in a prov chart, it is difficult to visually distinguish one data object from another, requiring the user to click on each circle to find out more about it. Some of the prov chat navigation and sense of place is messed with.
Feature #6404 (Resolved): Add an API synopsis page that gives a quick overview of the DataONE API...https://projects.ecoinformatics.org/ecoinfo/issues/64042014-02-01T07:32:51ZMatt Jonesjones@nceas.ucsb.edu

The DataONE API documentation is overly complex and can be intimidating. Provide a quick overview on the KNB for developers that can get people started with the REST API and the Java and Python clients. Have this description be the main linkout on all pages pointing at the API, and in turn link from this page to the DataONE API documentation for the details for reference.
