see ERD for an example of one that doesn't work and
http://gyro.nceas.ucsb.edu/vegdocs/workshop/2004/vegbank_overview_pwrpt.pdf as
an example of one that does (apache)

an email:
Acrobat problem:
can't view our PDFs from our website with mozilla, but we can when the
same doc is not on our site:
http://www.unc.edu/~mikelee/vegbank/vegbank_erd.pdf

http://www.adobe.co.uk/support/toptech/acrobat/319294/main.html may have
something to say about this.

This makes me think one solution would be to place all pdfs on the apache
part of the site? Hmm, this may be so. The following link is ok:

all pdfs should go on the apache side of things, where they have just been
moved, not tomcat. This solves the pdf viewing bug.
