- Community Dynamics Toolbox
Building on available long-term observations and advanced information technology we will develop a toolbox for automating the process of analyzing community change. Long-term data sets will be used to demonstrate data and system accessibility and functionality, and through implementation of new metrics we will gain insights into what drives change in ecological communities on a continental scale. Data will be accessed via the DataONE portal and the LTER Network Information System using the Ecological Metadata Language, and analyzed with R routines in Kepler workflows....
Issues and tasks associated with ecoinformatics outreach and development.
The Carolina Vegetation Survey <http://cvs.bio.unc.edu>, based at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is collaborating with the Ecosystem Enhancement Program <http://www.nceep.net/> of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources to develop an information system to manage and distribute vegetation data for both natural and mitigation sites. The system will support all forms of data collected using the five-level sampling protocol developed by the Carolina Vegetation Survey <http://cvs.bio.unc.edu/methods.htm> and should be of value for data collected to monitor mitigation efforts as well as data collected at reference sites that serve as restoration targets. Additional reporting and projection tools will be developed to aid in developing restoration targets and assessment of restoration success....
Kepler is a workflow creation and execution tool built on the Ptolemy II framework.
A database for storing and retrieving metadata about ecological datasets.
A client-side web-based user interface used for searching, displaying, and creating content for a Metacat server, or other data repositories that can utilize the DataONE API.
Morpho is a desktop application intended for end-user scientists to manage their data and associated metadata. It is the principal interface through which scientists will interact with the metadata catalog (metacat/mcdb) and the data access system (srb)....
- NRS Information System
The UC Natural Reserve System Information System, including the Data Registry, and other NRS information products as needed.
SciencePipes uses Kepler as a backend workflow engine.
Science Pipes is a free service that lets you:
Connect to real biodiversity data
Use simple tools to create visualizations and feeds
Embed results on your own web site or blog
The Semtools project focuses on intergrating semantic data management approaches into data and metadata management tools.
Various utilities that are useful across other product areas.
The VegBank database from the ESA Vegetation Panel at http://vegbank.org. This database consists of three interoperating components for tracking 1) Vegetation classification, 2) taxonomic nomenclature, and 3) vegetation plots. It also has a related local data management tool called VegBranch....
