closedIE selecting item doesn't complete?

Description
I select one plot and it seems to have worked, but when I select the second one,
the hour glass continues to go and the shopping cart with the minus doesn't
appear. The IE flag continues to wave, but I haven't gone anywhere. So it's
stuck in never never land somehow. Once, it did (after a long while) give the
following error message:

Other links on the page don't appear to work, at least until the error message
has been displayed. Firefox is fine, of course.
The text on numbers of plots in the dataset doesn't update, but I don't know if
that's related or not.
