Description

When a species has recognized infraspecific taxa, the logic for distribution maps appears to be at odds with that for listing specimen records. For example, a search on Hymenocallis occidentalis appropriately produces a map showing occurrences of both H. occidentalis and H. occidentalis var. occidentalis. Clicking on the Specimens tab, however, only shows NCU specimens of H. occidentalis. Similarly, a search on H. occidentalis var. occidentalis produces a map containing the species level records and the lone varietal record. The Specimens tab only displays the NCU varietal record, however.

RKP:
At present the specimen AND IMAGE tabs search only by name and not by concept. This is OK, but I do discuss in BUG 8 the desirability of listing both name matches and concept matches. It would be an obvious improvement to include in the results of such searches not just the taxon sought, but also its children. For example, the NCU collection labeled H. occidentalis var. occidentalis should appear in the list of specimens for H. occidentalis. I believe this is a pervasive problem that occurs across all taxa.
