Bug #2932
closedKNB Data Catalog Map feature searches revert to default page
0%
Description
Searches done from the KNB Data Catalog Map page use the default header and search box rather than the portal header.
A Search from (click on the "i" button)
http://knb.ecoinformatics.org/index_map.jsp
Brings up a page like
http://knb.ecoinformatics.org/knb/metacat?action=spatial_query&xmin=32.75&xmax=34&ymin=-80.25&ymax=-79&skin=default
The search results page includes the default header and search at the top of the page. There is no option for the fast search or complete search on this results page. The link for home does not take one back to the portal.
The KNB home (portal) page directs people to the KNB Interactive Map page (KNB Data Catalog Map) but once they get there they can not easily get back to the portal Home page through the home link. I think this is a concern because many people will go to this link right when they come to the KNB.
Jing said he might be able to set a parameter for the Interactive Map Search results to have the home link back to the KNB when they use the KNB Data Catalog Map page.
As an aside the test server (or default part of Metacat) has a header for the Interactive Map Page that does not say KNB Data Catalog Map it just says Data Catalog Map. The production and test pages both use the default header for the search results. I think the portal header and search part should be looked at as a possibility as being part of the search return for the KNB Interactive Map page. This way the results will look and work like the results from the KNB portal page.
Please note: Safari has problems with the Data catalog map feature and is part of the reason for the KNB page linking to the Interactive map rather than displaying it in the portal home page.
Jing plans to incorporate the two search options for the default Data Catalog Map search returns page in the next release of Metacat.
Maybe we need to check that the other pages such as KRUGER will be using the faster search.
note: the include_portalhead.jsp may play a role in possible changes.

In style/common/spatial_templates/spatial/config.xml, the value of <skin> is "default", if we change it to "knb", the header will be in knb style.
