Right now the notion of the current selection tool and information about the active selection are combined.

I think it would be better to have the "toolbar" containing selection tools at the top of this page, along with the "ignore this page" button. Then information about the active selection could be shown where the current tools are, allowing the type to be changed, and to give more information about the selection (such as the pattern for a pattern selection). In this case, we can use a combo box to display the type of selection in order to minimize the space required.
