There is currently no solution in place to address the challenge of documenting
data sets which may change over time. Once a data package is created and data
are added to it, it is a static snapshot of that data at that time, and there
aren’t any adequate means for ensuring that changes to the data set will be
reflected in the version we have in metacat. One thing I am doing right now if
I add data to a data package is to put “The data were added to this data
package on MM/DD/YYYY. Refer to the online distribution location URL for the
most up to date versions, as this data may change over time.” (or something
similar) in the metadata. However, this isn’t that great of a solution.
