Yeah, this is the reason i got an error when I called the method :(

There's now a very basic identifier generation method. You can pass it any scheme (ignored) and an optional fragment. If fragment it omitted, the "autogen" fragment is used. They look like this:
<fragment>.2012113011041728800

This needs more attention.

Metacat 2.0.6 now supports UUID (as it should have from the beginning).

Current feature set (UUID) is complete. For DOI/EZID support, see related bug: #5513
