I have decided to go with fancybox which an display images, video, HTML, and external webpages if we need to. It can display the images gallery style with Prev/Next buttons and thumbnails at the bottom for browsing. It also is designed to handle long captions well unlike some other lightbox libraries where I would need to mess with the CSS a bit to allow long captions to display underneath the images.

Additional notes on fancybox:
- I've tested it in multiple browsers, including the dreaded IE 8, and it works fine and looks nice
- According to builtwith.com reports, fancyBox is the most-used lightbox Javascript library and usage is increasing - https://trends.builtwith.com/javascript/lightbox
