Description

I've recently noticed an uptick on the data sets with metadata displays containing characters that do not display properly. An example is the recent submission:

https://knb.ecoinformatics.org/#view/knb.1165.1

which is also attached as a screenshot from Chrome Version 51.0.2704.106 (64-bit) on Mac OS X 10.10.3. In this example, the macron symbol is not rendered correctly. This behavior may be a display bug, or it may be an encoding bug in one or more of our data submission systems such as the registry or Morpho, but I am filing it here as a start to research the underlying cause.

Those characters are in the metadata so it is either a problem with the submission service or caused by the user (copy/pasting from another application, maybe). I'll do some testing with Morpho and the registry to see if I can reproduce it.
