Bug #1807
openStop/pause search feature request
0%
Description
Users must wait for a search to be fully completed before being able to open a
data package. This can take a long time, depending on the search parameters. It
can be frustrating to have to wait for the search to be completed when the dp
you want to open is already listed in the search results. It would be great to
have a "Stop Search" feature, much like that provided when searching for an
email in Outlook, or for a file on a computer.

Alternately, you could make it so that double-clicking on the item you want
opens the doc, while the search continues on, instead of stopping the search
altogether.

This was also suggested by participants of the February 2005 KNB workshop as
reported in Laura Downey's Morpho Usability Report: "provide mechanism for
canceling long running process."

Changing milestone on this bug as metacat performance has been in the last
release. Hence displaying of datapackages is relatively faster. But this is
still a useful feature to have in a future release.

A stop search button for when you do something like accidentally search for
datasets using a too-generic term.
